In 2004, SPERI carried out intensive research and tests on low-temperature coal economizers for 2X1000MW unit of the Shanghai Waigaoqiao No. 3 Power Plant on the basis of investigating and summarizing the operation of domestic and oversea boilers. With the technical research, design and development, production and manufacture in almost 5 years, the first set of low-temperature coal economizer in China (the first set of low-temperature coal economizer made of metal pipes in the world) was successfully put into operation on the unit of the Shanghai Waigaoqiao No. 3 Power Plant in May, 2009. At present, the unit of the Shanghai Waigaoqiao No. 3 Power Plant as the first set of unit equipped with low-temperature coal economizer in China has become a demonstration project.
Based on the experience in engineering practice of low-temperature coal economizer, SPERI researches and develops the WGGH flue gas waste heat recovery - reheating system which utilizes the recovered waste heat of flue gas to heat up the flue gas to the 80℃ before it flows into chimney. It effectively improves gypsum rain phenomena near the chimney of power plant and eliminates visual pollutions. At present, this system has been successfully used in the projects including the Zheneng Liuheng Power Plant, the Jiangyin Sulong Thermal Power, the Huaneng Shangan Power Plant, the Foshan Nanhai Jingneng Thermal Power, the Zheneng Wenzhou Telulai Power Plant , etc. All the systems which have been put into operation reach or exceed designed values and no corrosion problem exists.
